Break content into three short instructional sessions each week, with each session building on earlier skills.
Greek Language Instruction
Designing a manageable path from foundational language forms to early reading competence.
The instructional challenge
Beginning students must absorb unfamiliar symbols, grammatical patterns, and vocabulary while developing the confidence to read real language. A video sequence alone cannot establish competence; learners need repeated opportunities to recognize, recall, and apply forms.
The design response
Pair explanations with recognition, parsing, and short translation exercises.
Return to high-utility forms and vocabulary across lessons rather than treating each topic as finished after first exposure.
Illustrative learning outcomes
- Recognize and pronounce common Greek letters and letter combinations.
- Identify selected grammatical forms using observable morphological clues.
- Apply vocabulary and grammar to short, guided reading exercises.
- Explain why a proposed parsing or translation fits the visible form.
These are representative portfolio outcomes, not a claim that all 24 lessons have been produced or learner-tested.
Assessment concept
A weekly check combines short retrieval prompts, form identification, and guided text work. Learners receive explanatory feedback before revisiting missed concepts. A final sample task asks learners to analyze a short passage using a limited, explicitly taught set of forms.
What I would evaluate next
Pilot selected lessons with beginners; record common parsing errors; compare assessment performance against stated outcomes; revise pacing and examples accordingly.
